Brad Cox, who won the Withers in 2023 with Hit Show, brings Uncle Jim to the race. The 4-1 shot broke his maiden impressively at Keeneland in October before finishing third in an Aqueduct allowance behind the Jerome Stakes winner. With Cox’s proven ability to develop Derby contenders, Uncle Jim is a legitimate win threat.

Mo Quality’s Derby Aspirations

Mo Quality, listed at 7-2, earned four Kentucky Derby points with a runner-up finish in the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn. His maiden victory came at Churchill Downs, showing he can handle the Derby’s home track. His strong effort behind two-time Derby trail winner Coal Battle suggests he belongs at this level.

Global Steve Brings an Undefeated Record

Global Steve (4-1) is an intriguing option, shipping in from Parx with a perfect two-for-two record. He won his maiden race impressively before capturing the Future Stars Stakes, both with strong closing moves. Trainer Robert Reid Jr. has found success at Aqueduct, winning the Withers in 2010 and 2024.

Other Contenders

Based on their recent performances, Surfside Moon (20-1) and Corvus (30-1) appear outmatched. Surfside Moon’s lone win came on turf, while Corvus struggled in his last Aqueduct allowance effort. Both will need significant improvement to contend.
