James Harden is Second Place in NBA Three-Pointers
NBA odds and news:
James Harden Surpasses Ray Allen and Moves into Second Place in Three-Pointers in NBA History
James Harden continues to make history in the NBA. On Sunday, during t he Los Angeles Clippers 116-105 win over the Utah Jazz, “The Beard” surpassed Ray Allen on the all-time list for most three-pointers made, claiming second place with 2,975 threes. Allen finished with 2,973, andm now Harden is only behind Stephen Curry, who leads with 3,782 three-pointers.
Harden Reaches a Major Milestone, But with an Interesting Stat
Although Harden has achieved this impressive record, his three-point shooting percentage (36.3%) is the lowest among the top five on the list. For example, Allen made his 2,973 threes with nearly 700 fewer attempts than Harden, while Curry boasts a career 42.6% shooting percentage and Reggie Miller converted 39.5% of his 6,486 three-point attempts.
This has led some to view Harden’s record more as a “longevity stat,” since his three-pointers per game have significantly decreased in recent years. In his MVP season of 2017-18, Harden averaged 3.7 threes per game. However, this season, his average has dropped to just 2.5 threes per game, placing him 38th in the league.
Can Harden Catch Up to Curry?
Harden is the first to admit that he likely won’t catch up to Stephen Curry, who as of now has made 807 more threes than Harden, with only 691 additional attempts.
Active Players with the Most Three-Pointers Made
Currently, the active players with the most three-pointers are, in order: Stephen Curry, James Harden, Damian Lillard (2,639), Klay Thompson (2,523), LeBron James (2,441), and Paul George (2,267). Although it’s hard to imagine anyone breaking Curry’s record, statistics suggest that with the number of threes being attempted in modern-day NBA, a player could eventually get close to Curry’s mark. For context, the Boston Celtics are attempting 51.1 three-pointers per game this season, which is an NBA record. They have increased their attempts by nine threes compared to last season.
What Do the NBA Odds Say?
NBA ODDS are closely watching these milestones, especially Harden’s. While Curry’s record seems unbreakable for now, bettors may be evaluating whether Harden’s consistent three-point shooting and his longevity in the league will allow him to continue climbing this list over the next few seasons. Meanwhile, teams like the Celtics, who are attempting more threes than ever, could have a significant impact on the NBA ODDS as the season progresses.
