Horse Racing Odds: The Big Torpedo Wins on Saranac

Horse Racing Odds: The Big Torpedo Aims for Graded Stakes Glory in Saratoga’s Saranac Stakes

New York-bred The Big Torpedo is stepping up to face open company in the Grade 3 Saranac Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.

Trained by Tom Morley, this promising 3-year-old has shown consistent improvement, securing victories in two restricted stakes races. His recent win in the NYSSS Cab Calloway, where he led from gate to wire, has set him up for this more formidable challenge in Friday’s $175,000 race over 1 1/16 miles on the Mellon turf.

The Big Torpedo’s journey has been marked by steady progress, and his latest performance earned him a career-best 89 Beyer Speed Figure.

With regular jockey Eric Cancel aboard, he will attempt to translate his success against state-breds into a more competitive field. Moreover, his muscular form and tactical versatility make him an intriguing contender for those considering offtrack betting.

Top Contenders and Their Prospects

Trainer Brad Cox will saddle two formidable opponents in West Hollywood and Take Me To Church. West Hollywood, a son of Uncle Mo, has transitioned well to U.S. racing after beginning his career in England.

He comes off a victory in a Saratoga allowance race and will be a crucial player in the Saratoga betting landscape for this race. Furthermore, his solid performances against older horses suggest he’s well-prepared for the step up in class.

Take Me To Church, making his stateside debut, adds an international flair to the field. Purchased for $380,650 from the Goffs London Sale, he brings strong form from Ireland, where he competed in Group races.

His recent workouts at Saratoga indicate he’s acclimating well to his new surroundings, and his European experience could give him an edge in the Saranac Stakes.

Analyzing the Field

The Big Torpedo will carry a field-high 122 pounds, which adds an extra challenge to this competitive race. Meanwhile, his rivals include the well-bred The Process, trained by Cherie DeVaux, who will notably make his stakes debut after an impressive allowance win at Colonial Downs.

The Process, a half-brother to graded stakes winner Confidence Game, is another horse to watch closely for those analyzing the horse racing odds.

Other notable entries include Yo Daddy, trained by Linda Rice, and Villain, conditioned by Lindsay Schultz. Both have shown potential in their previous races and could surprise in the Saranac Stakes. These horses may offer value in exotic wagers for bettors looking at the whole field.

With The Big Torpedo leading the charge and strong challengers like West Hollywood and Take Me To Church in the mix, this race will highlight the Saratoga meet.
