Poster Joins Kentucky Derby Leaderboard After Remsen Victory

Eoin Harty’s undefeated colt Poster has emerged as a significant contender on the road to the 2025 Kentucky Derby. 

Following his narrow nose victory in the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct on Saturday, the Munnings colt now sits at number eight on the Derby leaderboard with 10 points. This marks the colt’s third win in as many starts, following earlier triumphs at Ellis Park and Keeneland.

Poster’s win adds another feather to Harty’s cap, as the trainer already has another top contender, First Resort, in the leaderboard’s top 10. First Resort claimed his position after securing victory in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2), earning 10 points and ranking seventh overall. 

Harty, who previously trained Derby hopefuls like American Lion and Colonel John, aims to return to Churchill Downs glory. Colonel John achieved Harty’s best Derby finish, coming in sixth in 2008.

Top Derby Contenders Face Off as Points Preps Heat Up

Bob Baffert’s Citizen Bull and Gaming lead the current Kentucky Derby leaderboard, which sits in first and second place, respectively. Both colts have not raced since their one-two finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, where Citizen Bull solidified his dominance in the division. 

Close behind is Philip Bauer’s Jonathan’s Way, with 15 points, after a strong runner-up finish in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes. Other notable names in the top five include Getaway Car, another Baffert trainee, and Chad Brown’s Chancer McPatrick.

This weekend offers additional opportunities for Derby hopefuls to climb the rankings. The Remington Springboard Mile and the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2) each provide 10-5-3-2-1 points to the top five finishers. Fans eager to analyze how the standings will shift will watch these races closely.
