2024 Music City Stakes Preview: Top Horses and Betting Tips

The 2024 Music City Stakes is shaping to be a highly competitive race at Kentucky Downs, with a deep and talented field of graded stakes winners and contenders.

Set at 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf, this Grade II race has drawn a whole field of 12 runners, with four also-eligibles hoping to compete. Offtrack betting fans are sure to find plenty of excitement in this race, as it features a blend of proven performers and rising stars.

Top Contenders and Key Entries

Pounce, a graded stakes winner and Saratoga betting veteran is among the top contenders, trained by Mark Casse. Pounce comes into the Music City Stakes fresh off a victory in the Lake George Stakes (G3) and will look to maintain that form.

Another formidable entry is Kairyu, an Irish Group 3 winner trained by Cherie DeVaux, who placed second in her last outing at the Coronation Cup.

Time to Dazzle, another strong entry, is coming off a win in the Ontario Colleen Stakes and has shown consistency in recent performances.

Buttercream Babe, trained by Mike Maker, is also in the mix after an impressive third-place finish against the boys in the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes (G2) at Saratoga. Buttercream Babe’s strong showing in a mixed-gender race demonstrates her ability to compete at a high level.

Graded-Stakes Experience Throughout the Field

Several other racing horses have already proven their worth in graded stakes competitions. Regulatory Risk, who finished third in the Kentucky Oaks, will make her turf debut for trainer Chad Brown.

Her transition to the turf is crucial to watch as she’s stepping into a competitive environment on a new surface. Meanwhile, Crown Imperial, Pipsy, and Visually all bring experience from graded stakes races, making the field even more competitive.

Simply in Front, who placed second in the Ontario Colleen Stakes, adds further depth to this highly talented group. Vive Veuve, who finished third in the Lake George Stakes (G3), will be looking to improve upon her recent form and breakthrough in this high-stakes race.

Overflow Field and Also-Eligibles

The Music City Stakes attracted so many high-level entrants that only half of the 32 entries entered the race, leaving four horses on the also-eligible list. Gavea, Uphill Dance, Twirling Queen, and Toupie await potential scratches to secure their spots. If any of these horses can compete, they could make an impact, particularly Gavea, who recently finished fourth in the Lake George Stakes.

As the race day approaches, horse racing odds will continue to shift based on updates and last-minute changes. With its exciting mix of talent and the unpredictable nature of turf racing at Kentucky Downs, the 2024 Music City Stakes promises to be a profitable event for bettors.
