Jody’s Pride Headlines 2024 Pebbles Stakes at Aqueduct
The $175,000 Pebbles Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack promises an exciting race for bettors following the latest horse racing odds. This one-mile turf race for three-year-old fillies features a field of talented contenders, each looking to claim a career-defining win.
Jody’s Pride Returns to Action
After a seven-month layoff, Jody’s Pride returns to the track with trainer Jorge Abreu aiming to secure her first graded victory. The American Pharoah filly, owned by Parkland Thoroughbreds and Sportsmen Stable, is making her turf debut from post 5 with Joel Rosario aboard.
She last competed in the Grade 1 Ashland at Keeneland, following a win in the Busher Invitational over a one-turn mile at Aqueduct earlier this year. Notable for her close second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, Jody’s Pride has shown promising potential that her connections hope to translate onto the turf.
Macanga Looks to Build on Recent Success
Imaginary Stables and Mark Barnhart’s Macanga, trained by Rick Dutrow, aims to continue her front-running style from post 7 with jockey Jose Lezcano. Last seen placing second by a neck in the Sands Point (G2) after leading most of the way, Macanga has a strong record on the Aqueduct grass.
Dutrow has noted that while he prefers a more measured approach, Macanga controls the pace. Macanga, out of the U.S. Ranger mare Highway Mary, has been a consistent competitor in her last five starts.
See You Around Makes U.S. Debut
Group 3-placed See You Around will make her U.S. debut for Christophe Clement, breaking from post 3 with Dylan Davis. Previously trained in France, the Siyouni filly placed third in her last start in the Group 3 Prix de Lieurey at Deauville.
Christophe Lorieul, assistant to Clement, shared that the Irish-bred filly has adjusted well to her new training environment, benefiting from recent preparations on Belmont’s dirt training track. Bred by C-Squared Investments, See You Around has a strong pedigree that positions her as a formidable turf contender.
Whiskey Decision Seeks a Comeback
Frederick Hertrich III and John D. Fielding’s Whiskey Decision aim for redemption after finishing off the board in her last two starts. This Kentucky-bred daughter of Speightstown showed earlier promise with a victory in the Christiana at Delaware Park, making her a favorite going into the Del Mar Oaks. Whiskey Decision has experience on different surfaces, which could benefit her at Aqueduct.
Way to Be Marie’s Return After a Layoff
Robert LaPenta and Madaket Stables’ Way to Be Marie returns from a five-month break, starting from post 8 with Manny Franco. Trained by Rob Atras, this Not This Time filly last ran in the Grade 3 Regret at Churchill Downs and earned her career-best Beyer Speed Figure in the Grade 2 Edgewood earlier in the season. Way to Be Marie’s competitive spirit has earned her strong backing, and she’ll look to leverage her speed in this stakes race.
Supporting Contenders in the Field
Rounding out the field are Chad Brown’s entrants, Grade 3-placed Oversubscribed and two-time winner Dea Matrona, along with Saffie Joseph Jr.’s No Mo Candy. Save Us Melania and Best Impression are entered as main-track-only.
This edition of the Pebbles, slated as Race 8 on Aqueduct’s nine-race card, offers a mix of seasoned competitors and emerging talent, presenting ample opportunity for offtrack betting fans to place their wagers.
