As the road to the Kentucky Derby heats up, two critical points preps—the Remington Springboard Mile and the Los Alamitos Futurity—set the stage for aspiring 2025 contenders. 

Alongside these events, regional stakes at Aqueduct, Fair Grounds, and Los Alamitos provide opportunities to highlight state-bred talent while offering bettors great action across the horse racing schedule.  With a mix of rising stars and seasoned campaigners, this weekend presents valuable insights for analyzing horse racing odds and offtrack betting strategies.

Remington Springboard Mile – Remington Park

Distance: 1 mile (Dirt) | Age: 2-Year-Olds | Kentucky Derby Points: 10-5-3-2-1

Friday night’s Springboard Mile features a mix of promising juveniles vying for early Derby points. Speed King (7-2) leads the field as the morning-line favorite following an impressive debut victory at Churchill Downs that earned him an 82 Beyer Speed Figure. Trained by Ron Moquett, the son of Volatile must now prove he can stretch his speed to a mile.

Remington specialists Jolly Samurai (4-1) and Mister Omaha (5-1) bring strong local form to the race. Jolly Samurai remains undefeated in three starts, including a dominant win in the Clever Trevor Stakes. Meanwhile, Mister Omaha boasts three wins from four starts, including victories in two local stakes. Both are solid threats to upset the favorite, especially with experience over the Oklahoma City track.

Bob Baffert, who has won this race 14 times, fields several contenders, including Getaway Car (5-2), a $700,000 Curlin colt. Fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, Getaway Car demonstrated raw potential in that outing but will need a sharper late kick to secure the win here.

Bullard (3-1), trained by Michael McCarthy, is the biggest challenger to Baffert’s dominance. The $675,000 son of Gun Runner is undefeated in two starts, including a commanding win in the Bob Hope Stakes (G3) at Del Mar. With his tactical speed and proven versatility, Bullard is a top threat.

Bold Fortune (5-2), trained by George Weaver, presents the biggest challenge. Winner of the New York Breeders’ Futurity, this Central Banker colt brings consistent stakes form and tactical speed. National Identity (6-1), a son of Solomini, and Missing Rocks (8-1), an Asmussen-trained runner, round out the key contenders.

The $150,000 Louisiana Champions Day Classic is the centerpiece of a program showcasing Louisiana-bred talent. Touchuponastar (3-1), a 5-year-old Star Guitar gelding, headlines the field as he seeks a three-peat and aims to surpass $1 million in career earnings. Despite a troubled third-place finish in the Delta Mile last month, his class and consistency make him the horse to beat.

Cosmic Train (4-1) enters off a thrilling victory in the Jacob V. Morreale Memorial Stakes, where he closed from last to win by a head. This gelding’s strong finishing kick makes him a significant threat. Others to watch include Tdzshininluckystar (6-1), a consistent performer with stakes experience, and Allnight Moonlight (10-1), who looks to rebound from a disappointing run.
