2025 Kentucky Derby Prep Races
2025 Kentucky Derby Prep Races: Citizen Bull Leads Points Standings
With nearly six months to go until the Kentucky Derby 2025, it’s time to look at the early contenders in the points standings.
Six prep races have been completed so far, including the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, providing insight for bettors looking to dive into Saratoga betting and offtrack betting as the race for the roses approaches.
These initial prep races awarded 10-5-3-2-1 points to the top five finishers, except for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, which offered 30-15-9-6-3 points.
Early Leaders on the Kentucky Derby 2025 Points Standings
The early frontrunner, Citizen Bull, trained by Bob Baffert, tops the leaderboard with 40 points. Citizen Bull’s dominant performance in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and his earlier win in the American Pharoah Stakes (G1) have put him well ahead of the competition.
Gaming, another Baffert-trained horse, sits in second with 15 points after his runner-up finish in the Juvenile. Getaway Car, yet another Baffert entry, holds third place with 11 points, having placed fourth in the Juvenile and second in the American Pharoah.
The Kentucky Derby trail continues with the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) on November 30 and the Remsen Stakes (G2) on December 7.
These events will allow new contenders to rise in the standings, offering valuable points for horses seeking a spot in the Derby. Keeping an eye on the horse racing odds as these races unfold will provide insights into who may emerge as the Derby favorite.
