No Charges filed in the altercation between Spears and Wembanyama’s

Las Vegas police announced on Friday that no charges will be filed following a brief investigation into the altercation between pop star Britney Spears, Victor Wembanyama from the San Antonio Spurs, and a member of Wembanyama’s security team. The incident occurred at a Las Vegas casino complex.

According to Spears, she was struck by a security guard when she attempted to approach Wembanyama outside a restaurant. However, Wembanyama stated that someone, later identified as Spears, grabbed him from behind. Spears filed a police report, alleging battery. The Las Vegas metro police department concluded its investigation and declared that no charges would be filed against anyone involved.

Video evidence later revealed Spears accidentally struck herself in the face, moments after her hand was pushed off Wembanyama. A clip showed Spears reaching towards Wembanyama and her arm being knocked back, it was inconclusive.

Spears confirmed on Thursday that she had filed a police report, describing the incident as “embarrassing.” She explained that she intended to congratulate Wembanyama and approached him to ask for a photo. Spears tapped him on the shoulder due to the loud environment. 

Wembanyama shared his perspective, stating that security advised him not to stop for anyone as he entered the restaurant to avoid causing a commotion. He recalled hearing someone shouting and being grabbed.

 

When will Wembanyama debut for the Spurs? 

The San Antonio Spurs are currently undergoing a training camp before their trip to Sacramento for the California Classic Summer League. Victor Wembanyama, the No. 1 overall draft pick, will not be part of the initial trip. Instead, he will join the team in Las Vegas prior to the Summer League opener on July 7 against the Charlotte Hornets. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich previously mentioned the possibility of Wembanyama participating in the Summer League given his recent workload in the French league’s LNB Pro A. Wembanyama recently completed a successful season with the Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92s, leading them to the LNB Pro A Finals with impressive averages of 21.6 points and 10.2 rebounds in 34 games, playing an average of 32 minutes per game.
