The Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ defense has suffered a significant setback with the announcement that All-Pro safety Antoine Winfield Jr. will miss multiple games due to a right knee sprain. 

Head coach Todd Bowles confirmed the news following Tampa Bay’s 28-13 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. This development could impact the team’s position in the NFC South standings and shake up NFL Futures for playoff contenders in the division.

Winfield’s Impact on the Buccaneers

Winfield Jr. left Sunday’s game in the second quarter and did not return. Despite his absence, second-year safety Kaevon Merriweather stepped up, tying for the team lead with seven tackles and adding a sack. However, replacing Winfield Jr. is no easy task, given his immense contribution to the Buccaneers’ defense.

Winfield has been one of Tampa Bay’s most consistent performers this season, logging 60 tackles, two sacks, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown in nine games.
