Suns Spoil Clippers’ First Game in the New Intuit Dome

The Phoenix Suns  spoiled the celebration at the Los Angeles Clippers debut in the Intuit Dome, winning 116-113 in overtime on Wednesday. This thrilling matchup marked the first NBA game held at the new $2 billion arena located in Inglewood, California.

A New Beginning for the Clippers

This season marks a milestone for the Clippers, as it is their first time playing in a venue of their own since 1998. Previously, the team shared the Crypto.com Arena, formerly known as Staples Center, with their local rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers. The atmosphere in the new Intuit Dome was electrifying, fueled by the crowd’s energy and the noise from the new “Wall” section.

Key Moments of the Game

Despite committing 22 turnovers and missing crucial free throws in the fourth quarter, the Suns managed to tie the game in the final 30 seconds thanks to a clutch jumper from Kevin Durant. In overtime, Phoenix took the lead, outscoring Los Angeles 13-10. James Harden shone with 29 points for the Clippers, while all of the Suns’ starters scored in double figures, despite Devin Booker fouling out late in the game.

The Clippers appear to be a weaker and diminished team compared to last season. The departure of veteran Paul George, who left for the Sixers, along with the ongoing injuries to Kawhi Leonard, essentially leaves the team in the hands of veteran James Harden. However, Harden no longer has the mobility and leadership he once had. The rest of the roster consists of either very young players or those who do not contribute much to the Clippers’ cause.

Looking Ahead

Clippers owner Steve Ballmer displayed colorful reactions throughout the game. With nearly 18,000 seats and 1,400 bathrooms, the Intuit Dome is set to become an iconic venue, hosting events like the 2026 NBA All-Star Game and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

However, the Clippers were without their star Kawhi Leonard, who will be out for an extended period due to knee soreness. In their next game, Los Angeles will travel to Denver to face the Nuggets, while the Suns will stay in L.A. to take on the Lakers.

With the performances of the Suns and the Clippers, the NBA ODDS are impacted. Bettors should pay attention to injuries and performance in each game, as every matchup can change the betting landscape and open new opportunities
