NBA Odds: Will the Expansion be Near?
NBA ODDS: THE NBA PREFERS TO DELAY
Expansion of New Teams
In a press conference, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that the league is still being prepared to address the expansion of new teams. During statements made at the NBA Board of Governors meeting, Silver explained that before considering new franchises, internal matters must be resolved, and potential expansion cities must be analyzed in detail, a topic that could be relevant for bettors interested in the NBA odds.
Priority Issues Before Expansion
Before the NBA can think about expansion, two major tasks must be completed: negotiating a new Collective Bargaining Agreement and finalizing new broadcast rights deals. With these issues nearly resolved, the league may consider expanding in the coming months. The first step in this process will be to form a committee of owners to explore the topic and define the next steps.
Franchises Sales and Independent Processes
Another crucial factor is the completion of existing franchise sales, including the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Boston Celtics. The conflict between the Timberwolves’ current majority owner, Glen Taylor, and potential buyers Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez is in arbitration. According to the sale agreement, this process is independent of the league. Regarding the Celtics, the group led by Wyc Grousbeck is also in the process of selling, with plans to finalize the sale of most shares this year or next.
New Platforms and Re-Election in the NBA
Larry Tanenbaum, governor of the Toronto Raptors and chairman of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, has been re-elected as chairman of the Board of Governors. Tanenbaum has held this position since 2017.
Additionally, the league is considering launching a national streaming platform for the 2025-26 season in response to Diamond Sports’ bankruptcy, the parent company of Bally Sports, which has affected several franchises.
EXPANSION CANDIDATES: Which Cities Have the Best Chances
Among the candidate cities for expansion are Seattle, which previously hosted the SuperSonics before they moved to Oklahoma City; Las Vegas, an emerging destination for professional teams; and Mexico City, which could also be in the running for a spot.
