The Atlanta Falcons (0-1) will play the Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday Night Football. The Eagles are the favorites, with a total set at 47.5 points. 

This matchup features two teams with very different Week 1 performances, and both squads will be looking to make a statement in this crucial NFC clash. Let’s analyze NFL Futures and each team’s chance of netting bettors a victory.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons are coming off a disappointing 18-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in their opening game. Atlanta struggled offensively, managing just 226 total yards and converting only eight first downs. Bijan Robinson led the Falcons on the ground with 68 yards on 18 carries, averaging 3.8 yards per attempt. 

Ray-Ray McCloud contributed in the air with four catches for 52 yards, averaging 13.0 yards per reception. Despite completing 16 of 26 passes for 155 yards and one touchdown, Kirk Cousins had two costly interceptions, finishing with a quarterback rating of 59.

Falcons’ Tactic

Atlanta’s offense has faced difficulties so far, averaging just 10.0 points per game and ranking 23rd in the NFL with 89 rushing yards per game. They have recorded only one passing touchdown and no rushing touchdowns in their first game. Turnovers have also been an issue, with three giveaways in the form of two interceptions and one fumble.

Defensively, the Falcons have fared better, giving up 18.0 points per game, placing them 10th in the league in this category. They’ve allowed opponents an average of 3.3 yards per rush and 137 rushing yards per game, while their pass defense has been one of the best in the NFL so far, surrendering just 133 passing yards per contest. Despite these numbers, the Falcons rank 12th in total defense, allowing 270 yards per game.

Philadelphia Eagles 

The Philadelphia Eagles, fresh off a 34-29 victory over the Green Bay Packers, will look to keep their momentum rolling in this Week 2 matchup. Jalen Hurts had a solid performance, throwing for 278 yards and two touchdowns while completing 20 of 34 passes. 

Hurts did, however, throw two interceptions, finishing with a quarterback rating of 80.3. Saquon Barkley was a force on the ground for Philadelphia, rushing 24 times for 109 yards at a 4.5-yard average. A.J. Brown had an outstanding game, catching five passes for 119 yards, averaging 23.8 yards per catch.

Eagles Key Points

Philadelphia’s offense currently ranks fourth in the NFL, averaging 34.0 points per game. The Eagles are sixth in the league with 266 passing yards per game and fourth in total offense, putting up an impressive 410 yards per contest. 

Their ground game has also been solid, averaging 144 rushing yards per game on 3.8 yards per carry. Despite these offensive successes, the Eagles have committed 57 yards worth of penalties across seven infractions, which places them 13th in the league for penalty yards.

The Eagles have room for improvement defensively. They currently allow 29.0 points per game, ranking 25th in the league. Their pass defense has struggled, giving up 251 passing yards per game and two touchdowns, ranking 26th overall in the NFL in that area. 

They’ve allowed 163 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on the ground. Philadelphia’s defense has been on the field for 58 plays, ranking 12th in that category, and they have managed just one takeaway so far this season.

Prediction

Philadelphia enters this game as a 7.5-point favorite, and given its high-powered offense, it is in a solid position to cover the spread. 

The Eagles have an advantage at home and will look to capitalize on Atlanta’s early-season struggles. With a more balanced and productive offense, Philadelphia is poised to exploit Atlanta’s defensive vulnerabilities, particularly in the rushing game. The Falcons will need to make significant improvements offensively to keep pace with a team averaging 34 points per game.
