Del Mar Bing Crosby Season 2024: Full Stakes Schedule and Key Races

 

Del Mar’s 11th Bing Crosby Season is set to begin on Thursday, October 31, and run through Sunday, December 1. The season will feature 20 stakes races, highlighted by the Breeders’ Cup, which returns to the seaside oval for the third time after previous editions in 2017 and 2021. 

This year’s Breeders’ Cup will occur on Friday and Saturday, November 1 and 2. The stakes program will include six additional races tied to the Breeders’ Cup, alongside Del Mar’s regular 14 stakes, adding excitement to the horse racing schedule and providing an excellent alternative to Saratoga betting. 

The total purse for the local stakes program is $3,150,000, including two Grade I races: the $300,000 Hollywood Derby on November 30 and the $300,000 Matriarch Stakes on December 1. 

With Breeders’ Cup races on the agenda, Del Mar will host an extra week of racing, stretching the season to five weeks, unlike its typical four-week fall meet.

After the Breeders’ Cup weekend, Del Mar will run four consecutive weekends of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday programs. There will be no racing on Thanksgiving Day this year, but the first post for regular cards will be at 12:30 p.m., with earlier starts for the Breeders’ Cup days.

 

The Schedule Format

The stakes schedule will be run primarily on the Jimmy Durante Turf Course, with 12 of the 20 stakes being turf races. Eight turf races will be held in the final two weeks, part of Del Mar’s famed Turf Festival, which consistently attracts top horses nationwide. This year’s extended meet offers even more opportunities for bettors to explore horse racing odds and offtrack betting as they engage with the action.

David Jerkens, Del Mar’s vice president and racing secretary, is confident that the addition of the Breeders’ Cup will bring even more excitement to this year’s Bing Crosby Season. The Hollywood-themed stakes races, named after legends like Betty Grable, Desi Arnaz, and Cecil B. DeMille, harken back to the glamorous early days of Del Mar, founded by Bing Crosby.
