Chandler Jones Avoids Jail Time; Chiefs Release Isaiah Buggs After Arrest

Former Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones may avoid jail time following his two domestic violence charges from last fall. According to Las Vegas Justice Court records, Jones’ 90-day sentence was suspended on June 17. 

The conditions of this suspension require Jones to “stay out of trouble” for six months and have no contact with the victim, except under family court orders.

Jones was arrested in Las Vegas in October for violating a temporary protection order for domestic violence. This incident occurred just weeks after a similar arrest on September 29, leading to his release from the Raiders. 

The protection order, granted to an unnamed woman, stemmed from an incident on September 12. Police responded to a report from the woman, who claimed Jones, her ex-boyfriend, had committed domestic battery.

Details of the Incident

According to the report, Jones showed up at the woman’s door without shoes, holding a flashlight. He had moved out of the residence in March, and she assumed he was returning a borrowed vehicle. 

She opened her garage door, but Jones entered through the back door using a keypad, claiming he was retrieving his shoes. When he tried to go upstairs, she attempted to stop him, and he shoved her into a railing. The woman told police Jones was “rambling incoherently” and she believed he was on drugs. 

He eventually left with his dog. Although the woman refused medical care, citing no injuries, she reported the domestic violence. The incident was captured on phone recordings and surveillance videos.

The protective order was valid from September 14 through December 13, as detailed in the police report.

Chiefs Release DT Isaiah Buggs After Second Arrest

The Kansas City Chiefs are releasing defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs following his second arrest this offseason. Buggs was booked on June 16 for second-degree domestic violence and burglary charges.

According to Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office records, Buggs allegedly broke into a woman’s apartment with a tire iron and dragged her down the stairs, causing scratch marks on her wrists. Buggs was released on a $5,000 bond.

This arrest follows a prior accusation of animal cruelty in late May. Authorities received information about two dogs left malnourished on the back porch of a home rented by Buggs. 

The dogs were taken from the house, and one was euthanized due to aggressive behavior and health issues. Buggs faced two misdemeanor warrants for second-degree cruelty to dogs or cats. The petition against him requested a court hearing to determine his fitness for owning pets.

Buggs, 27, signed a futures contract with the Chiefs in February after spending the last season on their practice squad. He previously played for the Detroit Lions and the Pittsburgh Steelers, recording 89 tackles and two sacks in his NFL career.
