LaMelo’s lament: Hornets struggle in the absence of star guard after ankle setback

The Charlotte Hornets faced a significant setback as their star point guard, LaMelo Ball, had to exit the game against the Orlando Magic due to a right ankle strain. The incident unfolded in the second quarter when Ball landed awkwardly following a layup attempt against Magic forward Paolo Banchero. The discomfort was evident as he had to be assisted off the court, leading to the announcement that he would not be returning to the game.

This unfortunate development adds to Ball’s history of ankle injuries, with a noteworthy surgery on the same ankle back in March. Despite Ball’s absence, the Hornets put up a fight against the Magic. However, Orlando managed to maintain a narrow lead, reaching a critical turning point when they expanded their advantage to 95-92 with a 3-point play by Anthony, coupled with key contributions from Wagner and Banchero.
