NFL Picks: Week 1 Lions vs Chiefs

The Kickoff is ready to start for week 1 of the regular season on Thursday, September 7th, on a match that can end up being a great game. In the last five matchups between these two franchises, the Kansas City Chiefs have won five games and the Detroit Lions two of them, so this match will be a tight one, as the Lions have been recovering from a bad team to a very good team.

SEASON OPENER AT GEHA FIELD AT ARROWHEAD STADIUM

The Chiefs who are coming off a 14-3 season the last campaign and gaming its seventh straight AFC West title and second Super Bowl championship in four seasons, will go against the Lions who after signing its coach Dan Campbell, who will be in its second season as commander of the felines, will be trying to win their first division title in 31 years. Detroit had a tough start the past campaign losing six of its first seven games and then turning around the last part of the season drawing a record of 8-2 and finishing second in the NFC North.

The numbers changed dramatically in both parts of the season, after giving up at least 24 points in each of its first seven contests, they were able to hold their opponents under 20 points in six of the last 10 games in the season.

The Lions have a great young quarterback Jared Goff whose numbers the past season were, 382/587,4,438 yards and 29 TDs, another of their leaders on the field was Amon-Ra St. Brown, who had 106 receptions for 1,161 yards and 6 TSs, and their third best player was Jamaal Williams who ran for 262 rush, 1,066 yards and 17 TSs. We should also mention a strong duo on the defense line in Aidan Hutchinson and James Houston who ranked first and second among rookies in sacks with 9,5 and eight, respectively. The NFL LINES can have a surprise with this Detroit Lion team, more experienced and second-year coach Campbell.

HOW ABOUT THOSE AMAZING CHIEFS

Their numbers are outstanding, one of the best and few franchises with success in the past decade, Their winning seasons have made them make it to the playoffs in eight of the past nine campaigns, also winning seven  AFC West titles, three AFC championships, and two Super Bowl rings.

One of these key factors for this season is the contract issue with star defensive end Chris Jones, he can hurt the defense if he doesn’t report before Thursday night’s kickoff against the Lions, Jones is waiting for a big and huge payday after being one of the top defense players in the league with (15,5 sacks) in the past campaign. The team will be also without Charles Omennihu, who was suspended six games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

Patrick Mahomes is still their big superstar, after a brilliant campaign last year, won MVP honors, which included 5,250 yards and 41 touchdowns, he has made this franchise make it to the Super Bowl three of his five seasons as a starter and win two Super Bowl rings, even playing last year in the playoffs with a gimpy ankle.

Another big player on this roster is tight end Travis Kelce who will try to reach his eighth straight 1,000-yard campaign. Defensive end George Karlaftis had 6,0 sacks and seven pass breakups during his rookie season. The NFL Odds will be close and looking at a possible back-to-back championship, something we haven’t seen for a while.
