NFL Analysis: Steelers vs Bills
As the lights dimmed on Acrisure Stadium, the NFL Franchise Pittsburgh Steelers offense emerged with a renewed sense of purpose, overpowering the Buffalo Bills in a convincing 27-15 win.
The Steelers have been vocal about their quest for a dynamic offensive revamp, a goal to reinvigorate their gameplay, which has been relatively stagnant over previous seasons. With just two games into the preseason, they’re already signaling a brighter horizon on their NFL Lines.
Taking center stage in this revitalization was the second-year quarterback, Kenny Pickett. Demonstrating why he might just be the keystone in transforming the Steelers’ offense from a liability into a powerhouse, Pickett orchestrated an impressive performance. Jaylen Warren showcased his electric pace, racing untouched to notch up a 62-yard score. Not to be outdone, Pickett’s precision was on full display as he connected with Pat Freiermuth on a beautiful 25-yard touchdown pass.
Highlighting their progress, the Steelers have now produced four offensive touchdowns over 25 yards in just two exhibition games. With Pickett at the helm for three of those, it’s clear he’s instrumental in the Steelers’ offensive resurgence.
Buffalo Bills: A Work in Progress
However, beyond Hamlin’s spirited comeback, the Bills seemed to falter. Star quarterback Josh Allen, in what could potentially be his only preseason outing, managed 7 completions from 10 attempts but failed to convert those into points. The Bills did threaten in Pittsburgh’s half but were thwarted by consecutive penalties, a recurrent theme that saw them penalized 13 times over the course of the game. Buffalo’s head coach McDermott expressed his frustration, labeling the penalties “unacceptable,” especially considering the team’s previous eight penalties against Indianapolis.
Bright spots for Buffalo were few, but rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid shone through with three catches totaling 45 yards. Conversely, backup quarterback Matt Barkley endured a challenging night, throwing three interceptions. One of those was expertly intercepted by Pittsburgh’s second-round pick, cornerback Joey Porter Jr., paving the way for another Steelers’ touchdown, putting them ahead 21-0 by halftime.
A Night of Honors
The night wasn’t just about football. The Steelers took a moment to honor the late Hall of Fame running back, Franco Harris. In a touching pregame ceremony, the club unveiled a jersey display in his memory. The Steelers had officially retired Harris’ No. 32 jersey last December after his unexpected demise at age 72. The ceremony was graced by Harris’ widow, Dana, and their son Dok, both of whom were also the honorary captains for the game.
Injury Report
Injuries, an unfortunate staple of the game, left their mark. Buffalo’s offensive tackle, Tommy Doyle, suffered a concerning left knee injury, leaving David Quessenberry as the lone backup tackle with NFL experience. Additionally, starting tight end Dawson Knox was sidelined due to a finger injury.
On the Steelers’ front, defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi missed his second consecutive game with a foot/ankle issue. Nate Herbig (shoulder) and safety Tre Norwood (leg) also found themselves on the injury list.

As the countdown to the regular season intensifies, the Steelers, with their 2-0 record, seem ready and raring to face San Francisco on September 10. Their revamped offense, led by the impressive Kenny Pickett, has given fans much to anticipate. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills, with their mixed performance, have some wrinkles to iron out before they challenge the New York Jets on September 11.
