Thorpedo Anna Eyes Coaching Club American Oaks Win

Thorpedo Anna will continue dominating the 3-year-old filly division in the Coaching Club American Oaks.

Having already secured victories in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and the Acorn Stakes (G1), Thorpedo Anna looks to extend her winning streak and solidify her status as the leading filly of her class and one of the horse racing odds favorites.

Thorpedo Anna’s Ascendancy

Kenny McPeek has high hopes for her, and she has thrived since her decisive 5 1/2-length victory in the Acorn Stakes. She remained at Saratoga to train, continuing to show impressive form.

McPeek commented on the 3-year-old filly: “She is doing fantastic. She’s thrived here.” Owned by Nader Alaali, Mark Edwards, Judy Hicks, and Magdalena Racing, which is operated by McPeek and his wife, Sherri, the filly is thriving.

“We kept her up here since her last run. It’s all systems go.” In the $500,000 Coaching Club American Oaks, Thorpedo Anna drew post three in a field of five. The field includes Intricate, Candied, Thorpedo Anna, Leslie’s Rose, and Barbratina from the rail out.

This 1 1/8-mile stakes race is a significant event on the horse racing schedule, and Thorpedo Anna’s participation adds excitement to it.

Training and Preparation

Thorpedo Anna has been in top form during her preparations, with a notable workout of five furlongs in 1:01.55 at the Oklahoma training track. “She’s been easy-peasy,” McPeek noted, highlighting her uncomplicated training. This consistency in performance makes her a standout in horse racing odds for upcoming races.

There is also speculation that Thorpedo Anna could compete against male horses, possibly in the Aug. 24 Travers Stakes (G1).

Mystik Dan’s Current Status

While Thorpedo Anna is thriving, her stablemate Mystik Dan, the Kentucky Derby (G1) winner, is experiencing a different trajectory.

McPeek shipped Mystik Dan from New York to Kentucky earlier this week and is taking a cautious approach with the 3-year-old son of Goldencents. “We backed off him for a while and haven’t made any plans to move forward. We are going to go easy with him until he’s ready and make sure he’s a good older horse,” McPeek said.

Mystik Dan’s owners, Four G Racing, Lance Gasaway, Daniel Hamby III, and Valley View Farm, support this approach, aiming for a productive 4-year-old season. With Mystik Dan likely out of the Travers Stakes picture, McPeek humorously dismissed the idea of Thorpedo Anna filling that spot, saying, “It’s too early to talk about that.”

Thorpedo Anna’s continued success makes her a focal point for offtrack betting. Her performance in the Coaching Club American Oaks will influence future betting lines and clarify the filly division’s landscape.
