Deshaun Watson Faces New Allegations of Sexual Assault

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is facing a new lawsuit, accusing him of sexual assault and battery stemming from an alleged incident in October 2020. 

The lawsuit was filed in Harris County, Texas, by a woman who claims Watson assaulted her at her apartment. Watson had previously settled with over two dozen women between 2020 and 2021 who made similar accusations of sexual misconduct.

The New Allegation

According to the complaint, Watson met the woman at a Houston restaurant in July 2020 and began exchanging messages. In October, Watson allegedly visited her apartment for dinner, and the woman claims that Watson became aggressive, demanding her address and eventually undressing her while she was in the bathroom. 

Upon returning, Watson allegedly insisted she massage him, despite her repeatedly stating she wasn’t a masseuse. The lawsuit alleges that Watson assaulted her when she tried to massage his back to de-escalate the situation.

NFL and Legal Response

The lawsuit seeks over $1 million in damages, with the woman alleging that she has suffered from severe mental distress, including panic attacks, depression, and anxiety. The lawsuit also claims that the woman was initially hesitant to come forward, given how other accusers had been treated by Watson’s defense team and the public.

Despite the new lawsuit, the NFL has stated that Watson has not been placed on the commissioner’s exempt list, as no formal charges have been filed. A spokesperson from the NFL added, “We are reviewing the complaint, and we will look into the matter under the Personal Conduct Policy.” The Browns organization has also stated that they will follow the league’s guidelines.

Watson’s attorney from previous cases, Rusty Hardin, has not commented on the new allegations. However, Tony Buzbee, the woman’s lawyer, clarified that they intend to pursue the case aggressively and seek a jury trial.
