NBA Odds: Wendell Carter Jr. Signs a $58.7M Contract Extension with the Magic

Wendell Carter Jr. has secured his future in the NBA by signing a three-year contract extension worth $58.7 million with the Orlando Magic. The Magic confirmed this news through a press release.

Contract Details

In his third season of a four-year, $50 million contract, Carter will remain committed to the team through the 2028-29 season. Reports indicate his salary for the upcoming seasons will be $18.1 million in 2026-27, $19.6 million in 2027-28, and $21 million in 2028-29. This is the maximum Carter could have received for the extension, given that his salary in 2025-26 is below the estimated average for a player.

Stability in the Position

With this extension, the Magic ensured that their two top big men were under long-term contracts, as Franz Wagner also signed a maximum five-year extension in July. By signing the extension now, Carter will not be eligible to be traded during the current season.

A Bright Future

Although just 25 years old, Carter is in his seventh season in the NBA. Over 315 regular-season games, he has averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in 27.6 minutes per game. However, he has faced several injury issues throughout his career, having never played more than 62 games in a single season.

Last season, Carter played 55 games (48 as a starter), averaging 11.0 points and 6.9 rebounds. He also made his playoff debut, averaging 7.6 points and 6.3 rebounds in 26.4 minutes over seven games.

After last season, Carter underwent surgery on his left hand to repair a fracture. This procedure involved inserting a plate at the site of the fracture. Additionally, he missed some games last season due to inflammation in his right knee.
