MLB News: Dodgers’ Rotation Shaken as Tyler Glasnow Goes on IL

The Los Angeles Dodgers‘ rotation has taken another hit as All-Star right-hander Tyler Glasnow was placed on the injured list due to a back issue. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated that Glasnow is not expected to miss significant time. The 30-year-old experienced back tightness while playing catch on Sunday but will not require an MRI. This is great for the Dodger’s MLB game lines after the All-Star Game.

All-Star Replacement

Tyler Glasnow recently earned his first All-Star recognition by posting a solid 3.47 ERA and leading the National League with 143 strikeouts in the first half of the season. Cincinnati Reds’ Hunter Greene, the hard-throwing right-hander, will replace Glasnow on the National League Roster.

Glasnow’s Workload and Career

Despite the injury, the timing may benefit Glasnow, who is nearing the most considerable workload of his career. He has pitched 109 innings in 18 starts for Los Angeles, one of only three pitchers (alongside Gavin Stone and James Paxton) who has not missed a start this season.

His previous career high was 120 innings, achieved last year with the Tampa Bay Rays. The Dodgers acquired Glasnow this winter, dismissing concerns about his injury history, which includes only two seasons with 100 innings pitched and just one with 20 starts.

Doctors attributed these issues to his elbow, which has been surgically repaired. Roberts described the back issue as an “isolated” incident.

Injury Strategy and Replacement Plans

By placing Glasnow on the injured list just before the All-Star break, the Dodgers hope he will miss only one start during the two weeks. “It lined up with the All-Star break,” Roberts explained. “We were thinking about giving him a break, and with the back flare-up, this seemed like as good a time as any.” There are no plans to limit Glasnow’s innings for the season. He reported feeling physically fine; Roberts attributed his recent 4.37 ERA since June to poor execution rather than fatigue.

To fill Glasnow’s spot, the Dodgers may turn to Justin Wrobleski, who made his major-league debut on Sunday and stayed with the team in Philadelphia. He could potentially start in Glasnow’s place this weekend in Detroit.

The Dodgers have already had to rely heavily on their pitching depth, with 12 pitchers, including Glasnow, currently on the injured list. Clayton Kershaw is another potential option.

He faced hitters on Sunday and is scheduled for a rehab start on Saturday. If all goes well, he could return after two rehab starts as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery. Kyle Hurt, another depth option, is currently sidelined due to elbow soreness. Hurt, who previously missed several months with shoulder inflammation, exited his most recent Triple-A outing with a trainer after facing just two hitters.

Manager’s Perspective and Team Resilience

Despite the challenges, Roberts remains optimistic. “I’m unfazed by it,” he said regarding the injuries. “You just pick up the pieces, or whatever pieces you have, and you must readjust and move forward. Our guys are being very nimble. It’s just keeping whatever guys we have ready, trying to win a baseball game. It’s certainly not ideal. But my job is to keep this thing moving forward.”

Impact on MLB Betting Lines
