2024 MLB All-Star Game: Lineups and Predictions

The MLB All-Star Game, also known as the Midsummer Classic, will be held on Tuesday, July 16th, and will bring together the best players in baseball and the best MLB betting lines after the World Series.

This year, the American and National League have announced their entire lineups. Baltimore Orioles‘ Corbin Burnes will start on the mound for the American League, while Pittsburgh Pirates rookie sensation Paul Skenes will take the mound for the National League. 

Skenes is making history as the fifth rookie ever to start an All-Star Game, joining an elite group that includes Hideo Nomo, Fernando Valenzuela, Mark Fidrych, and Dave Stenhouse.

The American League has dominated the All-Star Game, winning 27 of the last 35 matchups since 1988, including a tie. However, the National League snapped the American League’s nine-game winning streak last year with a 3-2 victory, thanks to Elias Diaz’s two-run homer in the eighth inning. Diaz’s performance earned him the MVP award.

Despite last year’s loss, the American League is favored to win this year. The National League, on the other hand, aims to make it back-to-back victories.

Key Player Absences

Carlos Correa’s foot injury will keep him out of the All-Star Game, joining Jose Altuve, Rafael Devers, and Kyle Tucker on the sidelines for the American League. 

Despite these absences, the American League still boasts a formidable lineup. Gunnar Henderson, Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, Yordan Alvarez, and José Ramírez have collectively hit 127 home runs this season, presenting a significant threat to the National League.

Corbin Burnes will start for the American League. Burnes can set the tone early with a 9-4 record, a 2.43 ERA, and 110 strikeouts this season. The American League also has a solid bullpen to support Burnes, providing an edge in pitching depth over the National League.

Paul Skenes, the rookie starting for the National League, brings excitement and potential. However, inexperience might play a role, especially against a powerful AL lineup.
