Ashland Stakes 2025: Key Fillies Vie for Kentucky Oaks Points at Keeneland
The Grade 1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland offers a significant opportunity for 3-year-old fillies looking to earn their spot in the Kentucky Oaks starting gate.
As one of the final Kentucky Derby Prep Races for fillies, the $750,000 Ashland also shapes Kentucky Derby betting strategies, as bettors analyze form and competition among emerging stars.
With the Kentucky Derby odds tightening across the board, this race holds high stakes for the Oaks contenders, fans, and bettors tracking momentum into the big weekend.
Oaks Points and Proven Class on the Line
Rescheduled from earlier in the weekend due to flooding in Kentucky, the 1 1/16-mile Ashland Stakes on Monday will now be the last points race for the Kentucky Oaks. The field of eight will compete for 100-50-25-15-10 Oaks qualifying points, with the top two finishers nearly guaranteed a spot in the May 2 feature at Churchill Downs.
Muhimma leads the field as the 9-5 morning-line favorite. Trained by Brad Cox and ridden by Flavien Prat, the Munnings filly enters with three wins from four career starts, including a Grade 2 Demoiselle score to close her 2024 campaign. She was last seen finishing third in the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes and will break from post 4.
La Cara, trained by Mark Casse and listed at 9-2, is another top contender. The Street Sense filly is a two-time stakes winner, including a 6 1/4-length victory in the Suncoast at Tampa Bay Downs. She followed that with a second-place finish in the Grade 2 Davona Dale on March 1. Dylan Davis rides from post 2.
Wesley Ward’s Running Away enters off a two-race win streak and has been installed at 3-1. The daughter of Gun Runner impressed in the Busanda Stakes on January 18 at Aqueduct. Gerardo Corrales retains the mount from post 5.

Supa Speed, trained by John Sadler and ridden by Joel Rosario, has been consistent with a runner-up finish in the Santa Ysabel (G3) and is 4-1 on the morning line and horse racing odds on BUSR. Take Charge Milady, trained by Kenny McPeek, had a big performance in the Martha Washington earlier this year but struggled in the Honeybee, finishing 10th. She’ll look to rebound at 8-1 odds.
Longshots include Look Forward (20-1), who finished seventh in the Honeybee; Amarth (20-1), runner-up in the Busher Stakes; and Admit (15-1), who ran third in the Bourbonette Oaks last out.
