New Season for the 76ers and New Injuries for Their Stars

The Philadelphia 76ers are starting a new campaign with a rather bleak outlook, as two of their three stars will be sidelined due to injuries. It is hoped that these injuries are not serious and are mostly precautionary, asking fans to trust the process.. With the start of the 2024-25 campaign on Wednesday night against the Milwaukee Bucks, the team announced that both star center Joel Embiid and new addition Paul George will miss the season opener.

Significant Absences on the Roster

Superstar and franchise player Joel Embiid will be absent not only for the opening game but also for the following match and the third one next Sunday. He will miss games against the Bucks, Raptors, and Pacers. Additionally, rookie point guard Jared McCain is reported to be “recovering well” from a recent pulmonary contusion. McCain, who will be a rookie and just was selected from the recent draft pick of this year , is expected to be a key player to cover or replace  stars like Tyrese Maxey and veteran guards Kyle Lowry and Reggie Jackson.

Paul George, who joined the 76ers’ star trio alongside Embiid and Maxey, suffered a left knee injury during a preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks on October 14.

A Complicated but Strategic Future

With Embiid and George out, the team looks more like a hospital ward than a competitive roster. However, this strategy of resting their stars could be smart in the long run. Basketball operations president Daryl Morey has indicated that the organization will attempt to keep both players out of back-to-back games during the regular season. This adds to Embiid’s recent weight loss, as he seeks to stay healthy for a potential deep playoff run.

What This Could Mean for the Team and Its Injuries

As the 76ers prepare to face Damian Lillard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and the Bucks, the NBA ODDS reflect the team’s uncertainty. Bettors should consider the absence of their stars and how this might affect their chances of winning at the start of the season.

With the futures of Embiid and George at stake, this season promises to be a challenge. Fans and bettors will be closely watching how this scenario unfolds.
