As the Atlanta Falcons prepare to face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday, NFL fans are eager to see how these two teams will perform given their recent track records.

Bouncing back in Week 5 with a win over the Texans, the Falcons’ consistency was again tested with a loss to the Commanders in Week 6. 

During this matchup against Washington, the Falcons lagged behind early on and couldn’t make up the deficit, ending in a 24-16 defeat. Desmond Ridder’s 307-yard performance couldn’t save the day, given his three interceptions. Meanwhile, Tyler Allgeier and Drake London displayed commendable efforts in rushing and receiving, respectively. However, their recent history of losses as underdogs and a lower ranking in average punt return this season raises concerns.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers kicked off their season with a series of wins, excluding a slip against the Eagles in Week 3. Their triumphant streak over the Vikings, Bears, and Saints was disrupted by a recent home defeat to the Lions. 

In their clash against Detroit, the Bucs struggled, conceding points each quarter. QB Baker Mayfield had a mediocre performance, and their rushing game lacked firepower. Despite these shortcomings, Chris Godwin emerged as a beacon with his standout receiving performance. The stats lean in favor of the Bucs at Raymond James Stadium, but their recent inability to cover the spread following losses might be a cause for concern.

Prediction

Tampa Bay seems to have a slight edge and BUSR’s NFL Odds agree, especially when playing on their home turf. However, both teams are coming from a backdrop of underwhelming offensive displays. The Buccaneers’ performance against the Lions, marked by low possession time and difficulty in converting third downs, is alarming. Simultaneously, the Falcons faced similar hurdles against Washington, struggling to capitalize on third-down opportunities.

Given the offensive struggles of both teams, this upcoming match might be a tactical defensive game, rather than an offensive spectacle. The scoreboard might not be lighting up excessively, so I’ll be taking the U 38.5. If you want to bet on a team, the Buccaneers to cover the -2.5 spread seems like the safe bet.
