NFL Analysis: Preseason Week 3 Vikings vs Cardinals
In the thrilling universe of the NFL, every game has its share of upsets and comebacks. The recent clash between the Minnesota Vikings and the Arizona Cardinals was no exception. The Vikings began the game with a promising lead, only to watch it slip through their fingers as the Cardinals masterfully crafted a fourth-quarter comeback, ultimately clinching an 18-17 victory away from home.
On the receiving end, Davion Davis made headlines with a stellar 26-yard jump-ball touchdown reception from Blough. It’s interesting to note that Blough had previously sharpened his skills on the Vikingsโ practice squad and was eyeing a coveted spot on the Cardinals’ roster. This is especially significant with the absence of Kyler Murray, who is on the road to recovery from a recent ACL injury.
In a strategic decision, the Cardinals didn’t deploy Colt McCoy, a move hinting he might be the chosen quarterback for Week 1. Despite Gannon’s discretion in announcing a starter, Blough is also being considered, alongside rookie Clayton Tune, the newly acquired Joshua Dobbs, and the seasoned Jeff Driskel.
The Vikings, on the other hand, marked the beginning of the game with touchdowns in their first two possessions. Coach Kevin O’Connell lauded Hall, the fifth-round draft pick from BYU, for his impeccable preparation and efficient performance. O’Connell’s praise was well-founded as Hall exhibited his skills with 16 successful passes out of 27 attempts, covering a distance of 178 yards.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Vikings, though. They have now extended their preseason loss count to ten successive games, which might affect NFL Lines to start the season. Their previous preseason triumph was against Arizona in August 2019. During the recent game, rookie Dewayne McBride added a feather to his cap with a rushing touchdown. Yet, the Vikings played it safe by resting most of their regulars for the second week in a row.
For the Cardinals, Corey Clement, who is vying for a position with Keaontay Ingram behind James Conner, put up a formidable show, rushing 14 times and covering a commendable 79 yards.
A notable entry for the Cardinals was second-round draft pick B.J. Ojulari, who made his preseason debut after recovering from a knee setback. His efforts culminated in a successful tackle.
Other notable performances
While most star players were missing from the limelight, rookie Clayton Tune showcased his potential. His performance was commendably efficient, throwing at an average depth of 8.6 yards. Tune’s performance suggests he is still in the race against veteran Colt McCoy for the top spot, especially in Kyler Murray’s absence.
The Vikings’ Andrew Booth Jr. found himself in a challenging position, starting at corner and playing 16 snaps, of which 10 were in coverage. Booth, who had a promising start as a second-round pick last season, is looking to reclaim his position after a year marred by injury.
Jay Ward, the Vikings’ safety, stood out with a remarkable play โ a blitz and a resultant fumble that led to Minnesota’s second score. Ward, a fourth-round pick from LSU, played an impressive 45 snaps, making three crucial tackles. This rookie is gonna make an impact on NFL Odds soon.
Injury Report
Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game. During the match, the Cardinals’ center Jon Gaines experienced a setback with a right knee injury. Shortly after, LG Dennis Daley of the Cardinals faced a challenge with a left ankle injury. Additionally, the Cardinals’ rookie WR, Daniel Arias, has been placed under concussion protocol.
