NFL Futures: Rams Add Scott Frost in Coaching Role

NFL Futures and News:  Los Angeles Rams Add Scott Frost in Versatile Coaching Role

The Los Angeles Rams are adding Scott Frost, former head coach of Nebraska and UCF, to their coaching staff in a multifaceted role.

Frost, who has a diverse coaching and playing background, spent time with the Rams during organized team activities and training camp this spring. The team has been working to formalize his position since parting ways with assistant special teams coach Chili Davis last week.

Frost’s role with the Rams will involve assisting on special teams, but his responsibilities will extend across all three game phases: offense, defense, and special teams.

This broad range of duties reflects Frost’s extensive experience as a player and a coach. He brings a wealth of knowledge from his time in the NFL, where he played from 1998 to 2003, and his coaching career, including successful stints at UCF and a challenging tenure at Nebraska.

Scott Frost’s Coaching Journey

Frost’s coaching career began after a six-year stint in the NFL, where he played for teams like the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He transitioned to coaching and quickly made a name for himself as an assistant coach at several programs. Most notably, Frost served as the offensive coordinator for the Oregon Ducks from 2013 to 2015, where he coached Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota and helped lead the team to the inaugural College Football Playoff.

Frost’s success at Oregon led to his head coaching role at UCF, where he turned around a program that had gone 0-12 in 2015 to an impressive 13-0 record and an American Athletic Conference championship in 2017. According to the Colley Matrix, his UCF team also claimed a national championship and is recognized as a co-champion of Alabama in the NCAA record books.

In December 2017, as head coach, Frost returned to his alma mater, Nebraska. However, his tenure there was less successful. He finished with a 16-31 record before being fired early in the 2022 season.

What Frost’s Hiring Means for the Rams

Frost’s addition to the Rams’ staff brings a versatile coach with experience in various roles. His ability to contribute to multiple areas of the team will be valuable as the Rams look to strengthen their overall performance. Frost’s experience in special teams and his offensive and defensive knowledge make him a unique asset for the Rams.

For those tracking NFL Futures, Frost’s hiring could be a factor to watch as the Rams prepare for the upcoming season. His input, particularly on special teams and potentially developing younger players, could contribute to the team’s success this year.
