NFL Futures: CeeDee Lamb $136M Extension

NFL Futures: CeeDee Lamb Signs $136M Extension with Cowboys, Becoming NFL’s Second Highest-Paid Receiver

The Dallas Cowboys have solidified their commitment to star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb by signing him to a four-year, $136 million extension, making him the second-highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.

This deal, which includes a record-setting $36 million signing bonus, ensures that Lamb will be on the field when the Cowboys kick off their season against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1.

A Record-Setting Deal

Lamb’s new contract places him just behind Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson, who recently signed a four-year, $140 million deal with $110 million guaranteed. Lamb was entering the final year of his rookie contract, and while the Cowboys had the option to use the franchise tag to retain him, it’s clear that both sides were eager to avoid that route.

The deal’s timing comes after some public back-and-forth between Lamb and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. In early August, Jones downplayed the urgency of getting a deal done during training camp, prompting a light-hearted response from Lamb on social media

. However, Jones later clarified his stance, expressing confidence that Lamb stayed in top shape during his time away from camp.

Lamb’s Continued Rise in the NFL’s Elite Receiver Ranks

Lamb’s performance on the field has consistently improved each season since the Cowboys drafted him 17th overall in 2020.

In 2023, Lamb led the NFL in targets (181) and receptions (135) while finishing second in receiving yards (1,749) and receiving touchdowns (12). His continued growth has firmly established him as one of the league’s elite wide receivers, earning him three Pro Bowl selections and a first-team All-Pro nod last season.

With the business side now settled, the Cowboys must manage Lamb’s workload carefully to avoid any risk of injury as the season begins.

Veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who joined the Cowboys this offseason, believes that Lamb’s absence from camp won’t impact his performance, drawing a comparison to former teammate Aaron Donald, who often skipped training camp but still dominated on the field.

Quarterback Dak Prescott also shares this confidence, praising Lamb’s work ethic and talent. Prescott emphasized that their connection remains strong and that he expects Lamb to reintegrate into the offense seamlessly.

Lamb’s new deal secures his future with the team and cements his role as a cornerstone of Dallas’ offense. For those watching NFL Futures, Lamb’s presence and continued success are crucial factors in the Cowboys’ championship aspirations this season.

With Lamb locked in, the Cowboys are poised to make a strong push in the NFC. With its top playmaker secured for the long term, all eyes will be on how this high-powered offense performs.
